I imagine the clean-up crew in Pittsburgh is having a hell of a time today getting the streamers and confetti picked up from yesterday's closing events for Pride week. And like the clean-up crew, I suppose, we just have a few things left to take care of in order to finish out our own Pride celebrations.

Mostly, this comes in the form of thank-yous. I would like to thank each and every person who made this fest what it was—the participants, the reviewers, and the readers. This past week we had a lot of great contributions made to the fandom in the spirit of Pride. And in our own way, everyone had a little bit of themselves in Pittsburgh. I hope you all had fun and found it worthwhile.

I also want to go out of my way to thank the participants on another level. This fandom sees an overwhelming level of character hate, but you all went out of your way to treat the characters with respect in your fanworks. I appreciate it. Not only did it make my job easier as a mod, but I think that it added another layer of quality to this fest. So, thanks.

If you have yet to do so, please check out the masterlist and fill out the feedback poll. The feedback poll is especially important because it tells me what direction to go from here.

At this point, I don't have any particular plans for future fests, but I'd be more than happy to arrange something if there's a demand for it. That's where the feedback poll comes in. If you would like to see something around here, let me know.

Thanks again, everyone!

Your hostess with the mostest,

For the purposes of planning any future fests and evaluating this one, I'd like to close out the fest with a feedback poll. All answers are strictly confidential, and all comments will be screened. This is for moderator purposes only.

If there was something you enjoyed, let me know! Likewise, constructive criticism is also welcome. Suggestions, comments, and questions can be left in a comment to this post.

[Poll #1846266]

If there is anything that I've failed to touch on in the poll but you feel should be addressed, please comment below.

Now that posting has come to a close, I'm pleased to present the community with the masterlist of our inaugural fest. We had a great turn out and created a lot of great fanworks in the spirit of Pride. If you have yet to do so, please check out the entries below and leave the authors/artists/fanmixers feedback on their contribution. They worked hard and deserve to reap the rewards!

Wordcount: 1723
Warnings: none
Summary: Brian and Justin finally go to the White Party together where they meet two former tricks. It makes them all think about commitment, but mainly this is just some porny voyeur!fic,
Author's Note: Thanks to mander3_swish for the super quick beta and to michira70 for the awesome banner. By the way, I did some research about to guys' names in canon. Turned out that one of them was named Connor in the DVD subtitles. The other one didn't seem to have a screen name, so I called him Martin.

Author's Note: This story can be seen as a gap filler or a series of deleted scenes from episode 511(before Brian takes Justin to Britin and proposes.) For the purpose of this fic, I’m altering cannon events, so pretend that Mel and Lindsay have already spoken with Brian about their plans to move Gus and JR to Toronto. A special thank you to my beta, [livejournal.com profile] ashiiblack, you’re a star and also to [livejournal.com profile] museme87 for running this awesome fest.

Title: What Might Have Been
Author: [livejournal.com profile] yaoigirl18
Character/Pairing: Brian/Justin
Rating: PG-13
Wordcount: 1,787
Warnings: After season 1 AU
Summary: "It may be unfair, but what happens in a few days, sometimes even a single day, can change the course of a whole lifetime." – Khaled Hosseini
Author's Note: For this story to work, Brian spends 5 out of 7 nights a week at the hospital post bashing, not every night like it’s implied in the show. Also, I don’t know the normal proceedings at a hospital where a patient is concerned, so don’t take my words as truth. You may hate me in the beginning, but things aren’t what they appear. Betaed by [livejournal.com profile] later2nite.

Title: Even Through the Fire
Author: [livejournal.com profile] delvalmom
Character/Pairing: Brian/Justin
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: About 3,400
Summary: What if Justin took a stand instead of letting Brian kick him out of the loft during the cancer arc?
Author's Note: For my prompt I chose the quote, "It may be unfair, but what happens in a few days, sometimes even a single day, can change the course of a whole lifetime." – Khaled Hosseini. For some reason this reminded me of Brian’s cancer arc and I decided to play the What If? Game veering away from canon at the end of 408. I want to thank my undercover beta, Linda, for her sharp eyes and excellent suggestions.

Wordcount: 1,999
Warnings: -
Summary:Even after all these years, there's still things Brian can teach Justin... or vice versa.
Author's Note: I was a little pressed for time and this didn't get nearly as elaborate as I wanted to. So this might be the first part of a series. You've been warned.... And many many thanks go out to [livejournal.com profile] mander3_swish for the last minute beta'ing.

As stated in the fest timeline, posting kicks off for Pride in the Pitts on Friday, June 1st, to coincide with the start of Pittsburgh Pride 2012. There are a lot of exciting fanworks that I'm sure everyone will enjoy!

Since we have exactly ten fanworks for the fest, posting will run from June 1st-June 9th. One day we'll likely double up on our graphics submissions. I'll be out of town on the 10th (in Pittsburgh for Pride, no less), so that's the reason for the double posting on one day. You can expect a masterlist of all fanworks to be posted sometime on Monday, June 11th, as well as a feedback post on how the fest can be improved upon.

A reminder to those participating: you may repost your fanwork as soon as it goes up on the community but not before, please.

Any questions? Feel free to ask below. If not, see you on Friday!
[identity profile] woodys-mod.livejournal.com
It's Saturday, Folkers, which means that we're officially past the submission deadline! At this point in time, I've responded to every email/PM I've received, including extension requests and submissions. If you've not heard from me, something has gone awry somewhere, and I ask that you contact me as soon as possible. There's a couple participants I haven't heard from, and emails to those folks have been sent out.

Please note that I do confirm that I've received your submission via a reply to your submission email. Usually I try to do that within 24 hours, but when the mod email gets flooded, it can take sometimes up to 48 hours. If you do not hear from me within 48 hours of submitting your fest fanwork, please don't hesitate to contact me at the mod email, mod LJ account, or my personal account ([livejournal.com profile] museme87). I've had a couple rough experiences in the past with gmail not cooperating, so I try to cover my bases at this point in the fest.

That's about it! The fanworks I've received so far are awesome, so I think you're all in for a treat. Once I get all the submissions in, I'll post a posting schedule.
[identity profile] woodys-mod.livejournal.com
Just one final reminder, everyone, that your submissions are due in a little over 24 hours unless we've spoken about an extension.

If you feel you're going to need an extension, please PM/email me as soon as possible. For those of you who are considering dropping out, please remember that dropping out without an email to the community account (woodysmod@gmail.com) will prevent you from participating in future fests.

Finally, for those of you who have already sent in your submissions, I will confirm that I've received them soon.

If I fail to receive your submission by Saturday morning EST and we haven't spoken about an extension, you'll be receiving an email from the mod account. Sometimes emails fail to send, so if you've already mailed me your submission and you receive this email, it means that for whatever reason it didn't make it to my inbox. I just ask that you resend it if that's the case. No harm done.

Anything else? Just ask in a comment below.

Hello, Folkers!

This is just a friendly reminder that your submissions for Pride in the Pitts are due in two weeks on Friday, May 18th at 11:59 PM EST. I hope that your muses have be cooperative, but if for any reason you need to contact me, please don't hesitate. The Page-A-Mod post is a great way to get in touch with me quickly, but you can also PM the mod account or my personal account ([livejournal.com profile] museme87) at any time.

Cheers!

Now that you've read the rules (community and pride fest) and checked out the prompts, it's time for sign-ups.

But, just one or two reminders first:

  • Inevitably, someone doesn't read the rules before they sign-up. Some of us are seasoned mods, so we speak from experience. So we're going to stress this again. Read.The.Rules. We've linked to them above in the first line. The community rules are highly, highly important. And just so you know, every time someone reads the rules, Brian Kinney gets laid. We all want to do our part to support his sex life, right?

  • There are no restrictions on how many times a prompt can be claimed. If you don't want to create for a prompt that a lot of folks are creating for, just skim the sign-up forms below to see what's popular.

  • You may only claim one prompt at a time. After you turn in your submission and the mods have approved it, you may claim another.

All set? Then please use this form for claiming:

Please direct all questions to the mod comment below, if you have any. And if you would be so kind, please pimp the fest so that we can have a great turn out this year.

Happy creating, Folkers!

Because there are very few symbols more iconic in the LGBTQ community than the Rainbow Flag, and especially during Pride season, the mods decided to base all of this summer's prompts on a color and meaning on the original rainbow flag. I think that everyone will agree that the inclusion of hot pink and turquoise will add to our fun!

For those who are curious, the colors and symbols from the original flag are as follows:
Hot pink - sexuality
Red - life
Orange - healing
Yellow - sunshine
Green - nature
Turquoise - magic/art
Blue - serenity/harmony
Violet - spirit

Each color has four subcategories under it: place, image, quote, item/concept. Our fourth category is sort of a catch all for anything we thought might be fun, from a word to an event! In selecting these prompts, the mods did their best to find prompts that would be concrete enough to provide a specific idea but flexible enough to go a thousand different ways with it. And for those of you scratching your heads at a few of the selections for our more abstract or hard to place categories (serenity or sunshine, for example), we ask that you just go with it! Our first priority was creating useful prompts, and sometimes we had to play with words and feelings.

Finally, when selecting your prompt for this fest, you will be selecting a color and subcategory. When asked for your prompt on the sign-up post, you'll need to put, for example, violet-quote. You may not choose only a color.

Click for Prompts! )

Alright, did you find the perfect prompt? Then head over to the Sign-Up Post.

Welcome to our inaugural fest at Woody's Place, everyone! As you may know, June is a pretty big month for the LGBTQ community because it's that time of year when most large cities hold annual Pride events to commemorate the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots of 1969. In keeping with the celebratory tradition, Woody's Place will be holding its own Pride celebration to coincide with Pride Week in Pittsburgh this year!

Because our theme this summer is Pride, the mods have gathered together thirty-two prompts that evoke the spirit of each color on the LGBTQ flag. This isn't the six color flag that we use today, but the original eight color flag that was flown in the Gay Freedom Day Parade in 1978. More colors allow for more prompts, and our two modern day missing colors lend themselves especially well to Queer as Folk. But more on that later!

Below you will find the rules and submission information for the fest. Please be sure to read the rules very thoroughly, as most questions that participants have can be answered here. If you still have questions after, please don't hesitate to leave a comment. The mods will get back with you promptly.
